Five of the top ten cultivars from Turfgrass Seed in one bag

AR 7 is Barenbrug’s best-selling mixture and is an outstanding 100% perennial ryegrass blend predominantly for use in the construction or renovation of winter sports pitches.

The mixture is formulated primarily on performance in the BSPB/STRI Turfgrass Seed booklet; specifically Table S1 under wear simulation.

Why choose Bar 7?

Figure 1 highlights each winter sports mixture on the market and how they differ very little in terms of mean performance under the BSPB/STRI trialling system. Many cultivars are now shared between different companies’ mixtures. Therefore it is important to select a mixture that brings some added value.

Figure 2 shows the mean colour of BAR 7 compared to the competitions equivalent mixtures. The greater colour of BAR 7 is down to Barcristalla and Barorlando, which are ranked #1 and #2 for mean genetic colour among the top 50 listed varieties in Turfgrass seed. BAR 7 consequently has a darker colour as an overall mix compared to its competitors.

Three of the five cultivars in the blend are Barenbrug-bred, which allows you to dig a little deeper into aspects such as disease tolerance and performance at other research sites, including Cropvale in Worcestershire. Barorlando, for example, offers exceptional Drechslera leaf spot tolerance whilst Barlicum exhibits very strong early spring growth – supporting data for such traits can be provided on request. So, when choosing your next winter sports seed mixture, be unique, choose Bar 7.
