Affordable robotic mowing with AMS Robotics

AMS Robotics, formally known as Automated Managed Services offer groundscare personnel a sustainable and environmentally friendly method to turf care mowing. Utilising Belrobotics robot technology, the automated service mowing solution AMS offers allows sport clubs, golf clubs and municipals to reap the benefits of robotic mowing via an affordable monthly maintenance agreement that requires no capital outlay.

A single Belrobotics BigMow Connected mower can cut up to 2.5 hectares (24,000m 2 ) three to five times per week. The frequent mowing allows the turf to have better root anchoring, as the grip on the soil is strengthen and promotes a denser sward more resistant to wear and tear. The mowers razor sharp blades trim the top of the grass, producing tiny clippings fine enough to mulch back into the soil.

BigMow is a self-charging battery powered mower which helps reduce the facilities carbon footprint. Additionally, robotic mowing offers potential cost savings of up to 50% and lets groundscare staff manage the robots via a mobile app, even when they are away from the site.

Recent AMS installations include the iconic Gleneagles in Scotland, Ryder cup hosts The Belfry and The Metro Golf Centre based in Barnet, London. All sites introduced the BigMow robot mower to cut the grass on their driving range outfield. Along with the Belrobotics ball collector robot ‘BallPicker’ and the AMS ball wash and transportation system, which come together to form AMS’s automated ball management solution.

Well established on the benefits automated maintenance can provide, Steven Gray - Head Greenkeeper at Melville Golf Centre, had this to say about the robot technology;

“We have had them at Melville Golf Centre near Edinburgh since October last year. Both mow bot and ball picker have been busy all winter without any problems (few teething problems but the support from AMS is second to none). Our outfield on the driving range has looked fantastic all winter compared to the mud field we usually have using tractors and ball collectors. You still need the human touch every day for daily maintenance and tidying up the areas out of wire. But the benefits are huge! No plugged balls, no cut balls due to mowing, no manual handling, fuel costs, wear and tear on machinery, water charges the list goes on!!”
